BRDA Living Data · Master Panel
Bank Research Panel
The master research panel merges Call Report financials, enforcement actions, market structure, CRA lending, SLOOS survey data, housing prices, and county-level demographics into a single bank × quarter panel keyed by FDIC certificate number. Designed for empirical banking research, it eliminates the merge work that typically consumes the first month of any bank-level project.
What’s In the Panel
A. Bank-Quarter Core
Balance sheet (assets, loans, deposits, equity), income statement (net income, NII, provisions), ratios (ROA, ROE, NIM, efficiency, NPL, chargeoff rate, equity-to-assets, loans-to-deposits), and BHC linkage via RSSDID crosswalk.
B. Market Structure
Branch counts, state/county footprint, deposit HHI at the county level, national deposit share, CR3 concentration, bank entry and exit by county.
C. Macro & Survey Controls
SLOOS lending standards and demand (CI large/small, CRE, RRE, consumer), Fed H.8 aggregate balance sheet, all merged at the quarter level.
D. Housing
FHFA House Price Index (state × quarter), Zillow ZHVI and median sale price (HQ county × quarter).
E. Demographics
ACS population, income, poverty, unemployment, homeownership, education, broadband. BLS QCEW employment and wages. All at the HQ county level.
White Paper Series: Bank-Level Empirical Research Infrastructure
What if every banking researcher started from the same clean panel? The master panel is the foundation for multiple white paper topics:
- Supervisory Burden — Do enforcement actions and capital stress reduce bank lending? Cross-sectional variation in exposure + clean controls.
- Community Bank Resilience — How do small banks in concentrated markets differ from competitors during stress events?
- Geographic Inequality — Does branch network consolidation predict declines in small business lending at the county level?
Applications: Bank-level event studies, cross-sectional regressions, market structure analysis, regulatory impact estimation, teaching and replication datasets
